At GreenState, we believe that when our team thrives, so does everything we do. We’re all in when it comes to taking care of them. 

Here’s a snapshot of the perks and benefits we offer.

Health Insurance

  • Health insurance coverage through Wellmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield is available to full-time employees of GreenState Credit Union. 
  • GreenState offers a preferred provider organization (PPO) and a High-Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). 
  • Prescription coverage is provided through MedOne.
  • The credit union shares in the cost of the monthly insurance premium.

Dental Insurance

  • Coverage through Delta Dental is available to full-time employees. 
  • Our plan has been designed to encourage preventative dental care for employees and their families.  
  • The credit union shares in the cost of the monthly insurance premium. 

Vision Insurance

  • Those enrolled in Delta Dental automatically have vision discount coverage available through Delta Vision.
  • This free program provides discounts on eye exams, lenses, eyeglass frames, and more.
  • Vision insurance through VSP is also available to full-time employees. 
  • The plan is designed to provide the lowest out-of-pocket cost for eye exams, lenses, frames, and contact lenses.
  • Employees pay the full premium cost of the VSP premium.

Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Plan

  • The FSA program offers additional opportunities for staff to pay certain expenses with pre-tax dollars, including both medical expenses and dependent care. 
  • By paying for these expenses on a pre-tax basis, participating staff receives more take-home pay. 

Health Savings Account (HSA)

  • Staff enrolled in the High Deductible Health (HDHP) plan can elect to contribute to a Health Savings Account to pay for qualified out-of-pocket medical, dental, and/or vision expenses. 
  • The HSA is a personal account - separate from an employee’s GreenState health benefits - that allows for pre-tax contributions. 
  • By paying for these expenses on a pre-tax basis, taxable income is lowered resulting in more take-home pay for participating staff. 

Flexible Time Off / Flexible Time Off-Unscheduled

  • A Flexible Time Off (FTO) benefit is designed to foster balance between work and home for all full- and part-time exempt and non-exempt staff. 
  • FTO is considered any time off taken with greater than 24 hours notice. 
  • The amount of paid time off available is not based on banking a certain number of days. Rather, employees take time off at their discretion (and upon supervisor approval) to attend to personal needs.
  • Staff members are also eligible for Flexible Time Off-Unscheduled (or FTU), which is paid time off taken with less than 24 hours notice. FTU is limited to 80 hours per year for full-time staff and 40 hours for part-time staff.

Holidays

  • Full-time and part-time non-exempt staff receive 12 paid holidays each year.
  • Full-time staff receive eight hours of holiday pay and part-timers receive four hours of holiday pay for each holiday observed.

Medical Leave

  • Family leave is designed to help employees balance work and family responsibilities by allowing leave for certain family reasons, including illness.  
  • GreenState offers paid leave as long as applicable policy provisions are met. 
  • GreenState provides up to two weeks of 100% paid medical leave. After that, GreenState  pays 80% of the employee’s wage for up to an additional 10 weeks. 
  • To be eligible, an employee must have worked at GreenState for at least 12 months and accumulated at least 1,250 work hours during the preceding year.

Parental Leave

  • Parental leave is designed to allow an employee to care for and bond with a newborn, or newly adopted or placed child.
  • GreenState provides six weeks of 100% paid parental leave to all full- and part-time exempt and non-exempt employees. 
  • To be eligible, the employee must have worked at GreenState for at least 12 months and accumulated at least 1,250 work hours during the preceding year.

Sabbatical Leave

  • A Sabbatical Leave Program is available for and required of all staff. The program is designed to promote work-life balance and personal and professional growth.
  • After completing 15 years of service, employees have five years to schedule and take a continuous four-week paid leave. 
  • Additional sabbaticals are to be taken every 10 years after the initial sabbatical.


401(k) Retirement Savings Plan

  • Employees may choose to participate in a standard or Roth 401(k) retirement savings plan. 
  • With a standard 401(k) plan, the money invested is tax deferred – no taxes are taken out. Additionally, the interest earned on investments grows without having taxes withheld.
  • With a Roth plan employees pay taxes on employee contributions now, and then upon retirement, no money (including earnings) is taxable upon withdrawal. 
  • The credit union offers a Safe Harbor Match for all participating staff. GreenState also provides a discretionary match opportunity based on employee contribution levels and years of service. 
  • For staff that have participated in the plan for less than 5 years, the total match opportunity is 5%. For longer tenured staff, the total match opportunity is 11%.

Group Life Insurance

  • GreenState provides all full-time employees with free Group Life coverage through Mutual of Omaha. 
  • The benefit value is 1.25 times total compensation, to a maximum of $500,000 for commissioned staff.
  • For all other staff, the benefit value is 2.5 times annual base pay, to a maximum of $500,000.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

  • GreenState also provides all full-time employees with Accidental Death and Dismemberment insurance.
  • AD&D provides from 1.25 times to 2.5 times an employee’s annual base salary in the event of an accidental death or specified bodily injuries.
  • All premiums are paid by the credit union.

Long-Term Disability Insurance

  • Full-time employees receive protection against loss of income due to illness or injury with Long-Term Disability Insurance (LTD) through Mutual of Omaha. 
  • Benefits begin after 90 days of disability and cover 60% of an employee’s monthly salary on a pre-tax basis up, to a maximum of $10,000. 
  • All premiums are paid by the credit union. However, employees are responsible for paying taxes on the premiums paid by the credit union.


Voluntary Life Insurance

  • Our Voluntary Life Insurance benefit allows employees to purchase additional life insurance coverage for themselves, their spouse or domestic partner, and their dependent children at competitive group rates. 
  • Employees can elect coverage in increments of $10k up to a maximum of $500k, with a guaranteed issue amount of $150k and Evidence of Insurability required for higher levels. Spouse coverage is offered up to $250k and cannot exceed 100% of the employee’s elected amount, with a guaranteed issue amount of $50k. Lastly, the child coverage is available at a flat amount of $10k that covers all eligible dependents. 
  • Premiums are age-based and deducted from payroll, and coverage may be portable if employment ends. This optional benefit provides financial protection for your loved ones, helping cover expenses such as mortgage payments, education costs, and daily living needs in the event of an unexpected loss.


Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

  • The EAP provides free, confidential services to employees and immediate family members in an effort to help prevent or solve personal problems before they affect job performance or health. 
  • The EAP has trained specialists on staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 
  • Assistance sought is held in the strictest of confidence. 
  • The cost of initial assessments and short-term counseling is covered by the credit union.
  • Continued treatment or additional services are at the expense of the employee or family member, but may be covered by health insurance plans. 


Financial Well-Being

  • Student Loans Interest Reimbursement: GreenState reimburses qualifying employees for interest payments made on their outstanding student loan debt under a number of federal student loan programs.
  • Home Equity Loans and Lines of Credit: Employees do not pay documentation fees when closing on a home equity loan or line of credit.
  • Auto Loan Rate Reductions: Employees receive a 1.00% rate reduction off of the GreenState standard loan rate if they are securing a new loan from GreenState for an automobile. This does not apply to refinancing for an already existing automobile loan from GreenState.
  • Mortgage Purchase or Refinance: Employees are eligible for benefits when purchasing or refinancing their primary residence. They may receive 0.125% off secondary mortgage rates; 0.250% off in-house mortgage rates; and $500 off closing costs. Exclusions include previously closed loans, Iowa Finance Authority loans, and Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) loans.
  • CAPTRUST Investment Advice – In addition to our partnership with Principal, GreenState Credit Union also partners with CAPTRUST to provide employees with access to professional, unbiased, retirement, and investment advice as part of their retirement package. Employees can schedule an appointment for free to help determine how much to save and how to invest, and create a Retirement Blueprint™, a comprehensive planning tool tailored to individual goals and objectives.

  • Lunch on Us! Several times throughout the year, onsite GreenState staff get to enjoy lunch on the Credit Union's dime!
  • GreenState Credit Union Casual Wear: GreenState pays for 50% of all GreenState branded casual wear items that staff order.
  • Volunteer opportunities: Giving back is a big part of our GreenState culture. With supervisor approval, staff may volunteer at credit union functions during the workday and still receive standard hourly pay.
  • Identity Theft Protection: GreenState has partnered with NXG Strategies to provide all staff with fully managed identify theft research, remediation, and recovery. 

Corporate / Business Discounts

  • In partnership with local businesses and other vendor partners, a variety of corporate discounts are available to GreenState staff. The list of discounts updates frequently and can be reviewed by staff at any time.

Business Casual Dress Code

  • Staff have the option to dress professionally or in business casual attire on any workday.
  • GreenState is pleased to share half of the cost of any credit union logo wear shirt or sweater ordered, and there is no limit to the number of items can be ordered.
